Spanish Songs, Chants, and Games Help Pre-K Learn New Vocabulary

Pre-K has been very busy in Spanish this past month.  The children were introduced to foods.  As I was showing them my collection of foods (plastic and fabric), it was brought to my attention that the children believe "lechuga" (lettuce) is salad.  SO, I explained to the children, after they finished giggling because they think "lechuga" is such a funny sounding name, that salad is made up of many different types of foods.  I showed them a tomato, onion, piece of celery, carrot, cheese, and of course the class favorite "lechuga".
Then it occurred to me that we might have fun actually eating a salad.  So, Mrs. Gilbert helped me distribute 20 plates of salad (complete with shredded cheese and Ranch Dressing).  We talked about each food item first, in Spanish of course, and then they told me the color(s) of each.  I am proud to say that all of your children ate heartily.  Many had seconds and thirds (some without Ranch Dressing)!!!!!

We also enjoyed "manzanas" (apples) in 3 colors (red, green, and yellow).  I was amazed at how much they enjoyed the green (very sour) ones.  They even ate the skin!!!  Again, we discussed the colors in Spanish, and how they each have a different taste.

I wish taking pictures had entered my mind while we were eating salad, but, it didn't.  HOWEVER, today we really had a lot of fun learning a new chant, "Pollo-chicken, gallina-hen . . ."  and singing "Head and Shoulders, Knees and Toes" (in Spanish).  Enjoy the following photos of all of us dancing and singing!
