Roberto Clemente--September's "Famous Hispanic American"
Spanish students in second and third grades have been learning about the life of Roberto Clemente. They have discovered that not only was he a professional baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates, but he loved music and was quite a humanitarian. He died at the age of 37 in a plane crash as he left Puerto Rico for Nicaragua. The people in Nicaragua were suffering from a devastating earthquake. Roberto Clemente was aboard a plane taking food, clothing, and medical supplies to help the suffering people.
