All Saints Spanish Students Celebrate the Life of Simon Bolivar

All Spanish students, grades PK-8, wore their Spanish t-shirts on Tuesday, April 5th, in honor of Simon Bolivar. He was one of the most important leaders in Spanish America’s struggle for independence from Spain. He was born in Caracas, Venezuela. His family was wealthy. He traveled to Spain in 1799 to complete his education. He returned to Venezuela in 1807 and began helping countries become independent from Spain’s rule. The countries he helped free were:

Panama - Central America
Venezuela - South America
Colombia - South America
Ecuador - South America
Peru - South America
Bolivia - South America

Bolivia was named after him. He was President of Gran Colombia from 1821-1830; President of Peru from 1824-1826; and was President of Bolivia from 1825-1826.
